ROME TO DISCOVER

A different, unusual, and exclusive itinerary. See Rome from a new perspective: here is my unusual Rome!

Rome, how many times have we already been there! Maybe this time we can give a new twist to our visit and enrich our weekend with something new and, why not, revisit something we've already seen and know but from a different perspective! And here is my "Rome to discover".

Montemartini Power Plant Museum

The Montemartini Power Plant is now a museum of art and archaeology located in the Ostiense district.

The thermoelectric power plant, which gives the museum its name, was inaugurated in 1912 and operated until 1978. When it was closed, the building was in good condition, so it was decided not to demolish it, but to reuse it for cultural purposes.

In 1997, the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage began the renovation work on the power plant, which was completed in 2000. Archaeological finds were displayed inside the building, creating a striking contrast between industrial technology and classical art.

A visit to the Centrale Montemartini is a unique experience that allows you to admire masterpieces of ancient art in an unusual and fascinating setting. The exhibition is organized into three large halls, which house sculptures in marble, bronze, and terracotta, as well as mosaics, frescoes, and other artifacts.

The Centrale Montemartini is a museum that definitely deserves a visit, both for lovers of classical art and for those who wish to discover a new aspect of Rome.

The contrast between ancient and modern

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Centrale Montemartini is the contrast between ancient and modern. The sculptures and archaeological finds, dating from different eras, fit perfectly into the industrial building, creating an evocative and unusual atmosphere.

The machines and equipment of the now decommissioned power plant serve as a backdrop to the works of art, giving them new meaning. You can therefore admire Roman sculptures and mosaics in a context completely different from what we are used to, discovering new aspects and meanings.

An innovative museum

The Centrale Montemartini is an innovative museum that has helped to renew the approach to museography. The display of works of art in an industrial setting has made it possible to create a unique and engaging experience. A place where history, art, and technology meet, creating an unforgettable experience.

Gas pipelines and Street Art in Testaccio

"Gas pipelines and art in Testaccio" is an urban regeneration project that has transformed the district's disused gas pipelines into works of art. The project was launched in 2014 by the cultural association "Trasformazione Urbana", with the support of the Municipality of Rome and Eni Gas e Luce.

The aim of the project is to redevelop the public spaces of the district and to create a new artistic and cultural route. The gas pipelines have been painted by Italian and international artists, who have used different techniques and styles.

Among the most significant works of the project:

  • "The Tree of Life" by Andrea Ravo Mattoni, created in 2015 on the facade of a building in via Galvani. The work depicts a large stylized tree, symbolizing life and regeneration.

  • "The Face of Rome" by Lucamaleonte, created in 2021 on the facade of a building in via Galvani. The work depicts a large female face, symbolizing the city of Rome.

The project "Gasdotti e arte a Testaccio" has enjoyed great success, both among citizens and tourists. The neighborhood has become an important destination for street art enthusiasts, and the artworks have helped to redevelop public spaces and create a new sense of community.

Sistine Chapel in exclusivity - how to have an unforgettable experience!

The Sistine Chapel is one of the most iconic places in the world, and visiting it is a must for anyone visiting Rome. However, the Sistine Chapel is also one of the most crowded places in the city, with long lines that can last several hours.

To avoid the crowds and enjoy a more exclusive experience, it is possible to visit the Sistine Chapel at special times or with a private guided tour.

Visiting the Sistine Chapel at special times

The Vatican Museums, which house the Sistine Chapel, are open to the public from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with last entry at 3:30 pm. However, it is possible to visit the Sistine Chapel at special times, such as:

  • Before the Vatican Museums open, from 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
  • After the Vatican Museums close, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
  • On special occasions, such as concerts or conferences.

Visiting the Sistine Chapel with a private guided tour

Another option for visiting the Sistine Chapel exclusively is to book a private guided tour. Private guided tours are usually conducted in small groups, with a maximum of 15 people. The advantage of a private guided tour is that you have the opportunity to delve deeper into the history and meaning of the Sistine Chapel's frescoes, guided by an expert.

What to expect from an exclusive visit to the Sistine Chapel

An exclusive visit to the Sistine Chapel is truly a unique experience. The absence of crowds allows you to admire Michelangelo's frescoes in complete tranquility, without being disturbed by noise and distractions.

The Sistine Chapel is a place of great beauty and spirituality, and an exclusive visit is an opportunity to fully appreciate its artistic and cultural value.

And at the end, enjoying a rich aperitif in the Cortile della Pigna "alone" at sunset is truly unparalleled!
