If you want to see something different and why not... pamper yourself, here's something for you! Even if you're not a fan of "militaria," as they say in the jargon, this place and especially the experience of the guide who will lead you on the tour with their passionate and engaging narration will make you one of them. Base Tuono, this is the code name, is a unique museum site in Europe dedicated to the Nike-Hercules missile defense system. It was a former missile base of the Italian Air Force and NATO, active between 1966 and 1978, and is located in the municipality of Folgaria in Trentino-Alto Adige at 1543 meters above sea level near Passo Coe. In the 2010s it was acquired by the municipality of Folgaria and reopened as a museum installation. In February 2013 it was formally recognized by the Air Force as a faithful witness to the Nike-Hercules weapon system. I won't reveal any more details... Let's completely change genre and go visit one of the most "heroic" hermitages you can find: the Hermitage of San Colombano in Tremblano, Rovereto. Built halfway up a cliff about 120 meters high, it is reached by climbing a staircase of 120 steps carved into the rock. Protected from the weather by a natural rock roof, it is dedicated to the Saint who, according to legend, as a young knight killed the dragon that caused the death of baptized children in the waters of the underlying Leno stream. The hermitage seems to have been inhabited since 753. The date of construction of the little church and the adjoining hermitage dates back to the 10th century. The photos speak for themselves....

The highlight, however, is the beautiful flowered terrace overlooking the lake where you can enjoy a delicious meal (don't miss the snails!) accompanied by excellent local wines. At the end you can take a walk through the vineyards or rent a pedal boat and tour the lake.
